I am all about balancing systems to boost results. I am sharing this information in an effort to expand awareness, so everyone is in the known and have a choice. Media voice despair over corruption and threats to public health in the wake of fake and toxic food scandals, mass protests against polluting plants, and faulty dictionaries. Not so long ago I found out that certain Chinese companies are even producing fake food, and as cheap as humanly possible. In fact China is generating massive revenue through manufacturing fake and toxic food. China produces fake rice, fake noodles, fake pasta, fake milk, fake eggs, fake watermelon, toxic fish, fake vegetables... and who knows what else they might have been “cooking” we yet have to discover. The rice, for example, is being made out of plastic believe it or not. Certainly, as an integrated healthy habits advocate and researcher of its impact in systems I thought to myself, this is going WAY too far.
After a massive online research I decided to share the alarming news on my blog to expand awareness on the matter. I am not going to lie; I am still in shock of my findings. It is devastating to see how science and innovation is used to take advantage of basic needs.
Working on one of my centennial family businesses, I grew up seeing how China is extinguishing the fashion industry. We are all, sooner or later, one way or another, being impacted by this destructive trend. Back in the day I considered it the “new” business culture where manufactures made general masses believe the benefit of purchasing and selling extreme affordable products. My shocking realization is seeing how internationally accepted these products are. I get that when I was traveling the world as a child, information wasn’t as accessible as it is now. Thus why, not everyone could be in the known and be able to accept or understand the wrongful use of science and innovation. However, there is no excuse now. I’ve always asked myself when people are going to realize the multiple negative impacts China’s massive way of producing and distributing has on humans. Yes, I get it; it is a vicious powerful cycle playing politics, micro and macroeconomics. But, c’mon now. As consumers, can we just STOP purchasing these products? We have to start somewhere.
The unethical massive fabrication in China generates all kinds of toxic and unhealthy products. China is using the same innovative methods that they use to make cheap technology products, clothes, toys, kitchen supplies and other consumer products to produce food, which is absolutely dangerous. Below are a few examples:
- PLASTIC RICE: Yes, fake plastic rice is being produced in China. It is believed that it is actually made from potato powder mixed with a fake synthetic resin. When boiled the rice stays hard and doesn’t cook like regular rice. Ingesting even small amounts of plastic is horrible for the digestive system and hormones. The BPA (chemical) in plastic mimic’s estrogen and this hormone skyrockets in the body when BPA is ingested. Consume plastic rice and you’re basically asking to die young of breast cancer. It is believed that the long-term effects of this food could cause multiple types of cancer.
- TILAPIA FISH: Tilapia is commonly fish-farmed in China. These fish are some of the worst, most toxic and unhealthy fish that you can come across. A tilapia fish will eat anything, similar to a bottom-feeder fish. this fish is being farmed in small pools of wastewater. It’s one of the worst fish purchases you could buy. It’s commonly known that the Chinese sea-food farmers won’t even let their children eat the seafood that they farm, that should tell you something. 80% of the Tilapia in America come’s from China.
- COD FISH: Cod is another type of fish that is fish farmed in China. This fish is not healthy and lives in its own waste. Currently over 50% of American Cod comes from China.
- CHINESE APPLE JUICE: Believe it or not approximately 50% of the apple juice sold in the United States comes from China. China is the LARGEST pesticide producing country in the world and they haven’t even begun to address pesticide or chemical residue on foods. I recommend completely avoiding apple juice, for yourself and your children. Fruit juice is too rich in sugar and is better mixed with vegetable juice for your blood sugar levels.
- PROCESSED MUSHROOMS: U.S. inspectors have found contaminated mushrooms from China. Some manufacturers in China go so far as to label these processed mushrooms as organic to increase their profits. If you do a Google search you’ll find that there are many “mystery mushrooms” in China, completely fake. 34% of processed mushrooms are from China.
- CHINESE GARLIC: U.S. inspectors have also found tainted garlic from China. Garlic from China is sprayed with chemicals more than abundantly, leaving you with a bad aftertaste due to a chemical concoction. 31% of Garlic sold in the U.S. is from China.
- CHICKEN: In 2013, the U.S. Department of Agriculture approved the sale of Chinese chicken in America. Many food safety experts are concerned with the quality of this chicken as China is a country where avian influenza and food-borne illness are common. Beyond that, China produces more pesticides than any other country in the world and is polluted by not only that but mass production and industry.
- PORK: Farmers in the Fujian Province, who were contracted to dispose of pigs that had died on the farm - many from porcine diseases, have been detained for butchering the carcasses and selling the meat for human consumption. Just to give you an idea, Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork producer, was acquired by a Chinese firm in 2013 for nearly $5 billion -- more than the company’s market value. The surprising purchase caused some lawmakers to wonder if there might be a hidden player. As part of the series “Food for 9 Billion,” Nathan Halverson of the Center for Investigative Reporting examines the Chinese government involvement.
- MUD (SOLD AS BLACK PEPPER): A vendor in China collected mud and sold it as black pepper, and also took flour and sold it as white pepper. The Chinese do not have a lot of due diligence in their food and safety regulatory systems, which is unfortunate Compared to the European standards, the Chinese fall very short to say the least.
- INDUSTRIAL SALT: Industrial salt is unfit for human consumption yet Industrial salt was sold as table salt for 13 years! Industrial salt can cause mental and physical issues, hypothyroid problems as well as reproductive system disorders.
- GREEN PEAS: Fake peas in China were created with snow peas, soy beans, along with green dye and sodium metabisulfite (a chemical that is used as bleach and as a preservative). This dye is banned to use on produce because it may cause cancer, as well as inhibit the body’s natural ability to absorb calcium. These green peas also don’t soften when boiled and the water turns to an unnatural green color. Yet another crazy, out of this world scenario… Fake green peas in China were found in 2005, and may be still produced today.
Take this one fact, the air in Beijing, China is so polluted that breathing it actually does as much damage to the lungs as smoking 40 cigarettes a day, says a new study as of 2015. China produces more pesticides than any other country in the world, meaning that if your food comes from China it is most likely to be laced with pesticides. China is one of the most polluted regions in the entire world. 70% of rivers are polluted, the air is toxic and the sheer volume production of goods there leaves a lot of toxic chemicals and by-products as waste that leak into the environment.
Global Times says authorities are still investigating the arrests of over 900 people, including market traders and restaurant staff, in a fake mutton scam.
When you purchase ridiculously affordable products or eat at that super low-cost restaurant you are indirectly supporting this damaging business culture. Quality has a price. Don’t sell your mind, body and soul for cheap my friend. Everything you put in your body and mouth has an impact in your growth. So next time you are about to buy something really inexpensive question its source, especially if you are feeding your children. Do your best to know the source of the products you consume. How can you tell if your apple juice, garlic or mushrooms are from China? It’s difficult to tell. This is why I recommend buying organic food, shopping locally at your farmers market and getting to know your farmer or supplier. Ask questions at your health food, grocery store, or food supplier. Do your research, use Google to contrast information. There are many food advocates out there happy to teach you healthy habits; you just have to look for them. If you happen to need advice let me know, I can connect you to great health experts.
